HANDS OFF! While conventional incandescent lamps can be handled with bare hands, halogen light bulbs should not. Since the quartz envelope, or bulb, of the lamp reaches high temperatures, the oils and salts from skin will deteriorate and weaken the bulb. If your hands should come in contact with the bulb, use a small amount of rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth to clean the lamp. Allow time for the bulb to dry before using.

Halogen lamps deliver a crisp, white light. While Halogen lamps can be dimmed with a conventional incandescent dimmer, using a dimmer may have a negative impact on the lamps. When dimming, standard incandescent lights benefit from the lower voltage applied to the filament. However, halogen lamp filaments require higher temperatures (at least 250 degrees Celsius) to function properly. In the case of dimming a halogen lamp, the filament may not reach the necessary temperature, and not work. Keep in mind that dimming a halogen lamp for extended periods may result in a blackened inside wall of the bulb, leading to reduced light output and lifespan. To prevent this, periodically run the lamp without dimming to allow the halogen to clean the inside of the bulb.
